Along with your photo ID, you also need to include an address proof in your application. One of the following documents may be included in your form:

3. Evidence of Birth Date

Once you have finished scanning all these documents, just do the following:

  •     Go to this page on the NSDL website.
  •     Scroll down and select a new PAN card from the drop-down menu. Click Select.
  •     Now you can fill out the form. If you are in doubt, visit this page for form completion guidelines.
  •     The first field is AO code, which you can look up here. You can also call the income tax department Helpline at 18001801961 to inquire about your AO code.
  •     The other fields, such as name, gender, address, etc., are pretty self-explanatory, but remember to select the correct documents that you are going to submit with the application from the drop-down window in item 15 on the form.
  •     Once you have completed all the details, choose a payment method at the end of the form. The PAN card fee is Rs. 105, but additional bank charges may apply depending on the type of payment. If you want to send the PAN card outside of India, the fee is Rs. 971. You can pay by demand day, check, credit / debit card or Net Banking.
  •     When you are done, click Submit.
  •     Check all the details in your form. Make sure all spellings are correct and type the captcha code, and then click Confirm.
  •     Now you see a page with terms of payment. Make a note of the transaction number at the top of the page, and then click Agree.
  •     Finish the payment.
  •     You now see a confirmation form. This has a unique 15-digit acknowledgment number. Print this page.
  •     Add the two photos to the printout of the confirmation (in the room).
  •     Sign the field on the receipt form.
  •     Put this form in an envelope with the check or DD (if you have not paid online) and the required documents mentioned earlier.
  •     On the cover write APPLICATION FOR PAN - ____. Fill in the space with your unique 15-digit acknowledgment number.
  •     Set it at NSDL at the income tax PAN Services Unit, NSDL e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune - 411016.
